Fishing and drinking are not strangers. Out on Minnesota’s Lake Lida, some guys have created an ice-fishing hut/bar. The liquor license came from a nearby bar (on land) called Hillbillies Vittles. Minn. Public Radio has photos. Five types of beer, some hard liquor, and two ice holes for jiggin’.

The Avalanches have finally made nearly all of their long-withheld mixes live and downloadable, for free. Evidently they wanna remind people why their new album is something to look forward to.

For the new record, which seems to be coming in the first half of 2012, they collab with Ariel Pink and Connan Mockasin.

The Avs had one of my favorite exchanges on Facebook recently. A kid asked how he could clear rights to use an Avalanches song for his BMX video. The response? “Just do it. Nobody will give a f***.”
